Asphalt Paving in Southern California

New asphalt, overlays, patching and repair for driveways, parking lots and private roads. We build the base right first, so your pavement holds up to SoCal heat and heavy traffic.

Asphalt Paving Services

Ochoa Grading & Paving is a licensed asphalt paving contractor (CSLB Lic. #1153314) serving residential and commercial customers across Southern California. Because we're also a grading company, we prepare the subgrade and aggregate base ourselves. That's the part of the job that decides how long your asphalt lasts.

  • New asphalt installation: driveways, parking lots, private roads, access roads and industrial yards.
  • Asphalt overlays and resurfacing: a new layer of hot-mix asphalt over sound existing pavement to restore the surface for less than full replacement.
  • Remove and replace: full-depth removal of failed asphalt, base repair and new paving.
  • Asphalt patching and pothole repair: saw-cut, remove, compact and patch damaged sections.
  • Trench paving: paving back saw-cut trenches after electrical, plumbing and utility work. See trench paving.
  • Grinding and milling: to restore grades, fix transitions and prepare for overlays.
  • Speed bumps and berms: asphalt curbs and drainage berms.

Residential Asphalt Driveways

A new asphalt driveway is one of the most cost-effective ways to improve curb appeal. We grade for proper drainage away from your home, install and compact a solid base, and pave with hot-mix asphalt for a smooth, durable finish.

Commercial Parking Lot Paving

For property managers, HOAs, retail centers and industrial facilities, we pave new lots and rehabilitate old ones, then follow up with sealcoating, striping and ADA compliance. We can phase the work to keep your business open.

Asphalt Repair vs. Replacement

Not every worn lot needs to be torn out. Surface cracking and fading can often be handled with crack filling and sealcoating. Isolated failures can be patched. Widespread alligator cracking or base failure usually calls for remove-and-replace. We'll show you what we find and give you options.

Our Asphalt Paving Process

  1. Evaluate

We inspect the existing surface, base and drainage.

  2. Prepare

We grade, excavate where needed, and install and compact the aggregate base.

  3. Pave

We place hot-mix asphalt to the specified thickness and roll it to full compaction.

  4. Finish

We clean up, then sealcoat and stripe when the asphalt is ready.

FAQ

Asphalt Paving Questions

How long does new asphalt last?

A properly built asphalt surface with a solid, well-compacted base typically lasts 15 to 25 years or more. Regular crack filling and sealcoating every few years helps it reach the long end of that range.

How soon can I drive on new asphalt?

Most new asphalt can take light vehicle traffic within 24 to 72 hours, depending on temperature. We'll give you specific guidance for your project, and recommend avoiding sharp turns and heavy loads for the first couple of weeks.

Should I overlay or replace my parking lot?

If the base is sound and damage is mostly at the surface, an overlay is usually the more economical option. If there is widespread alligator cracking, potholes or soft spots, the base has likely failed, and remove-and-replace is the longer-lasting fix.

Do you pave residential driveways?

Yes. We pave new residential asphalt driveways and replace old ones throughout Southern California, including grading for proper drainage.
