Asphalt crack filling & sealing

Asphalt Crack Filling in Southern California

Every crack in your asphalt lets water into the base. Hot-pour crack filling seals it out and stops small cracks from turning into potholes and expensive repaving.

Why Crack Filling Matters

Asphalt cracks as it ages, from sun exposure, temperature swings and traffic. On its own, a crack is a small problem. Once water gets through it, the base underneath softens and the pavement starts to sink, spread and break apart. Crack filling is one of the cheapest forms of pavement maintenance and one of the most effective.

Our Crack Filling Process

  1. Clean the cracks

We blow out dirt, debris and vegetation so the material bonds.

  2. Hot-pour rubberized filler

We fill the cracks with hot-applied, flexible crack sealant that expands and contracts with the pavement.

  3. Finish

We squeegee or band the filler to seal the edges, then it cures quickly so traffic can return.

Crack Filling vs. Crack Sealing

The terms are often used interchangeably. Generally, crack sealing treats active cracks that move with temperature using a flexible, rubberized sealant, while crack filling fills wider, more stable cracks. We'll evaluate your pavement and use the right material for each type of crack.

When Cracks Need More Than Filling

Interconnected "alligator" cracking, sunken areas and potholes usually mean the base underneath has failed. Filling those cracks won't fix the problem. Those areas need saw-cut asphalt patching or remove-and-replace. We'll tell you honestly which repair your pavement needs.

Pair It With Sealcoating

Crack filling is the essential first step before sealcoating. Together they give you the most protection for your asphalt investment.

What Affects the Price of Crack Filling

Every property is different, so we price each job after an on-site look. These are the main things that affect the cost:

  • Total linear feet of cracks
  • Crack width and depth
  • Cleaning and routing needed before filling
  • Whether some areas need patching instead
  • Combining with sealcoating in the same visit

FAQ

Crack Filling Questions

When should asphalt cracks be filled?

As soon as possible, ideally once cracks are about 1/4 inch wide or wider. The sooner they're sealed, the less water reaches the base and the less damage occurs.

How long does crack filling last?

Quality hot-pour crack sealant typically lasts several years. Pavement keeps aging, though, so new cracks will form over time, and many property owners include crack filling in routine maintenance every year or two.

How soon can traffic drive on filled cracks?

Hot-pour crack filler cools and sets quickly, so traffic can usually return shortly after application. We'll let you know the timing for your job.

Can you fill cracks in concrete?

Our crack filling service is designed for asphalt pavement. For damaged concrete, we typically recommend repair or panel replacement. See our concrete services.
